Geocache Description:

Cache is not at coordinates given above - they are for a chargeable NT car park.

Also, please note that the National Trust is caring for the specialist habitats and landscape you enjoy on this and other caches on NT property, which is one of the reasons we are glad to be members.

Puzzle caches

You either love them or hate them. Unfortunately if you ignore them, you often miss out on some pretty walks and good caches. So this series of caches is designed to ease you gently into the world of puzzle caches. I'm not nearly in the league of the puzzling solving/setting gurus, so these aren't too tricky and I hope they will open up these and other puzzle caches to you.

The caches

Click on the "related web page" link at the top of this page (just under the size) and it will take you to some hints I have set up on solving puzzle caches. There will be one cache/stage for each puzzle type.

If you want to solve them normally, just keep to the cache pages. If you are a newbie, or have got stuck, then click on a link to the hints pages, which will help you to solve the puzzle.

The complete circuit is ca. 3 miles.

Feel free to contact me at any time if you get stuck.

The first stage - a cooperative puzzle

This first stage is a co-operative puzzle, and has been solved now. Cachers submitted a guess by writing a note-type log and I let them know whether it was right or not on this cache page. They were trying to guess the coordinates of a famous location in the UK. For each guess I awarded points. Each guess of the Right digit in the Right place was given "RR". Each guess of the Right digit, but in the Wrong spot was be given "RW". N5 and W00 was given. The other 12 digits had to be guessed.

The guesses

N51 11.111 W001 11.111 scores 1 RR and 0 RW

N51 09.123 W000 20.456 scores 0 RR and 7 RW
N51 30.198 W000 07.182 scores 1 RR and 4 RW
N51 30.480 W000 04.587 scores 1 RR and 5 RW

The coords lead to a famous castle

Read up about the place you have just found and there should be an obvious connection with me. Use his name (christian names and surname with no blanks) as the password (lowercase) on the file at the link below.

Some other bumph

The caches on this circuit vary in size from micro to small, and share two common features. Firstly, they have no pen or pencil in them (as I have run out), but they have spare plastic ziploc bag things in them for the logs, for use if the first one falls apart (I bought 300 on ebay!!)

The majority of the walk is fairly flat, but one part in the middle and the last part will make you earn your tea and flapjacks. I have marked the terrain accordingly.
