Geocache Description:

The Mad Chemistry Professor

A mad chemistry professor seems to be going around in Rostock. For quite a while it has been rumored that he seeks the blood from innocent victims to conduct rather strange experiments, involving a secret formula. Your task is to find out if these rumors are true and to find out where he hides himself. But be careful! Don’t try to find him alone! Take at least one or even more persons with you in who you can trust. Once you know the exact location of his hiding place try to steal the secret formula from him! But, under no circumstances try to catch the professor himself. Just report back the formula and his hiding place and we will take care of the rest.

The intelligence we have gathered so far tells us that he seeks his victims by placing ads in newspapers, featuring a fake university email address. We have contacted him in response to such an ad, pretending we were an interested participant in his experiments. His response to our email is attached below.

Unfortunately, this is the only help we can give you. He talks in riddles and we have not yet been able to solve them.

Best wishes,

The Chemistry Department

PS: Please take a digital camera along. Apart from possibly helping you on your quest, it would be nice if you could show us some pictures of the place later on … assuming you come back in one piece :-)
PPS: YOU TAKE THIS QUEST ON YOUR OWN RESPONSIBILITY! IT IS DANGEROUS! From the last person we contacted nothing has been seen anymore. Only her camera was found, containing a single picture.

The Email

Subject: Re: Participation in your experiments

Dear “Participant”,

I was delighted to see the email of yours in my inbox this morning! Indeed I am looking for participants in some new exciting experiments. Of course, all participants are generously reimbursed for their time expenditure. And I can tell you that none of the former participants has ever had the chance reason to be disappointed!

We can not perform the experiments at the university, since we do not have all the necessary equipment available. The German research funding agencies are way too restrictive for that. Actually, in the current state we can count ourselves happy that IKEA has come to Rostock, providing university employees with free pencils.

In any case, I kindly ask you to meet me in my private laboratory in the inner city. Since my academic colleagues are jealous of my recent success and therefore probably do monitor my emails, I encrypted the coordinates at which you can start looking for me. Please come by night (we need to be alone), bring dark clothes (required for the experiment), and a lamp to follow the stars.

The coordinates:        XEBLIER

I am looking forward to meet you in person!

Yours sincerely,
Dan Sylveste

Another Email

Dear “Participant”,

Things have changed, the security of my laboratory has been compromised by forces of the Evil. I and you have to be much more careful now. Therefore, come to me but do so after 12 o'clock in the night. Bring a small lamp and search for the BIG star, do not consider the smaller stars ... they have been replaced by the Evil. MAKE NO NOISE and AS LITTLE LIGHT AS POSSIBLE. Then you will find me!

I am still looking forward to meet you in person!

Yours sincerely,
Dan Sylveste
