(ENG) Ligavas (Bridge's) Cave (Red Cave)
The age of the rock in the cave as whith the Spogululu (Mirror) Cliffs exceeds 350million years.
However,the cave is not natural,but rather isan artificial egg-shaped hollow,connected with legends.It is said that in 1577 during the Livonian War,when Ivan the Terrible and the Tartars besieged Cesis,a bride groom hid his bride in the cave,not far from Cesis.
However,the Tartars found the two fugitives and killed them.From their blood,the whole cave was coloured red,giving rise to the cave's other name,Red Cave.
The ravine where the cave lies is home to a rare and interesting plant-the woolly buttercup-included in Category 3 of the Latvian Red Data Book.
