hollora: Regretfully, all the cover for the location of this cache has been cut and chipped (not sure why and I belong to the Historical Society). This means to replace the cache (which I had intended to do) in the same (or near) location will be impossible. Hate to say it but another one bites the dust.

Thanks go to Northwood Explorer who brought me coins and TBs for the replacement hotel while he was on his bike road trip! I will see these get moved along very soon.

Geocache Description:

This cache is part of the Maine R.O.S.E. Series and is meant to be really obvious, simple and easy. It's perfect for cachers who want a quick find, or who are not up for a physical challenge. The purpose of this series is to promote caching to everyone, and create a fun family cache experience. Some fellow cachers get discouraged by vague descriptions and caches that appear to be difficult hides. Our attempt here is to make the cacher aware of the entire situation before they attempt the cache. If you have any comments that should be added, please let us know.

Directions: This cache has been placed by permission on the site of the Orrington Historical Society building. This building is on the front of the property where a Senior Housing complex is now located. This complex was built on the site of the Orrington Fair Grounds, where there used to be a race track and grandstand. The cache could be considered a "gas saver" cache, too, as there are parts of a multi cache both coming and going (GCZM7B). The Orrington Historical Society holds meetings in their building except in the winter. They are open by appointment - contact the cache placer if you are interested in viewing their collection.

Parking: You are welcome to pull your car into the grassy area in front of the building (suggested). In winter, snow is not plowed there, but, you may pull to the edge of the road. Please use caution.

Difficulty: This cache has been rated 1.5 for difficulty because the cache will require you to read the whole cache page - use a combination lock and open two containers. The cache container is right in plain sight but you will need a combination (312 - from the bottom up to the piece which opens)to open it. You will need to open the lock and remove a LocNLock box from the GeoMonitoring Station. The door on the Station must be lifted out and up and locks in place for you to replace the inside container. You will then have to pull it out to close it snugly and replace the lock.

Terrain: This cache has been rated 1.5 for terrain because there is no trail and the ground may be uneven. It should be wheelchair accessible. If you find it is not - please notify me.

Distance: The distance from the place to park or pull to the side of the road to the cache is roughly 10-40 feet, depending on where you choose to park.

Cache Container: The container is a grey metal box, clearly marked, secured with a combination lock. You will need to open the lock and remove the inside container. Should be a perfect place to swap small TBs or traveling Geocoins. Please replace everything as found and spin the lock so it is secure.

More Information: This series has been developed in collaboration with Cache Maine and Becket. We have each committed to hiding a dozen rose caches in our area. This cache is to replace one of mine which was previously archived. Enjoy!.
