Rt 60 Connector Ridge #1 - Briarwood
How Geocaching Works
Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions in our disclaimer
One of three caches placed in this area. This ridge connects several areas from which you can enter - Simmons Creek, George's Creek, Coal Fork, Point Lick, Witcher Creek, Belle Hollow, and probably a few others. We entered via Simmons Creek, taking Hogpen Hollow Rd up the mountain. All three caches are best found in a 4WD or ATV as most of the roads are not suitable for anything else. Of course, you may also hike in but it will be a long hike. This is a great area for 4-wheeling. We love exploring all the roads and trails, some on the map and some not.
Depending on what you are driving you may want to park at the parking coordinates below and hike the rest of the way in (not long). Past this point the 'road' narrows and you will likely get a few scratches on your vehicle. At the time we placed the cache the road was blocked near the cache site by a tree across the road and, depending on the length of your vehicle, turning around may also be a problem. But we drove all the way in our 4-dr Jeep and were able to turn around without a problem. There are quite a few briars in these woods (hence the cache name) so tread carefully but you shouldn't have much trouble finding the cache once you are at the coordinates (difficulty 2 is because of poorly mapped roads).
You are looking for a medium sized ammo can. This area is open to hunters during hunting season so please re-hide the cache well to prevent it being muggled.
