Geocache Description:

Geocachers, you are invited to join myself (AuntieNae) and TamCo, as we present a special Geocaching Workshop for other Park & Recreation Professionals as a pre-conference session for our annual conference.

The purpose of listing this class on the geocaching website it to ask for your assistance to make this a positive interaction between the Park & Recreation Professionals and Geocachers in Wisconsin.

University of Wisconsin – La Crosse Cartwright Center - we have Rm 259 and Ward reserved

Our program will begin with the presentation with Q&A in the morning, break for lunch on campus (pay on your own) then spend time after lunch seeking demonstration caches we will hide prior to this workshop. Geocachers, we would welcome your assistance answering questions and providing hands on help.

Our workshop meets at the University of La-Crosse at the Cartwright Center - coordinates have been updated!



WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION

Looking for a new way to attract visitors to our parks? Geocaching is an international eco-sport that uses GPS receivers to find hidden “treasure”. It is an activity that involves people of all ages and abilities including families. Dress for the weather, following lunch, a hands-on experience geocaching will be included.


Objectives:

Learn how to navigate the geocaching.com website to locate the containers already hidden in your parks.

What to look for when purchasing a GPS receiver for geocaching.

How to use a GPS receiver to navigate between locations.

Types of geocache hides and containers

How to host a geocaching event. Geocaching events are a great way to draw visitors to your parks.

Establishing a geocaching policy for your parks. As part of placing a geocache container, it is a requirement that permission is obtained from a land manager or owner.

At the time this event was submitted to geocaching.com, we have Park & Recreation Professionals from the following communities already enrolled in this workshop: Appleton, Ashland, Fond du Lac, Janesville, Sparta, Sun Prairie, Sussex, Watertown and a group of University of Wisconsin-La Crosse Recreation Management Students.
