Geocache Description:

***THIS Geocache will be archived by the end of 2013*** Thanks for the good times and all your logs! It has been a pleasure to see this found on a daily basis!

This is Singapore's first cache in the transit area of Changi International Airport!

A Tropical Oasis in the middle of one of the busiest airports in the world.

The world's first Butterfly Garden built in an airport.

The Butterfly Garden is located in the transit area within Terminal 3 of Changi International Airport in Singapore.  It was officially opened on 28 August 2008.  There are two levels of landscaped garden of more than 200 species of tropical vegetation bathed in natural sunlight. The roof and glass panels are curvilinear shaped and together with the landscaped waterfall, this provides a warm and humid environment for the 47 species of butterflies to thrive.  In all there are more than 1,000 free-roaming butterfiles.

The end result is a tropical landscaped garden complete with timber floor deck. Soft piped-in music and sounds of waterfall combine to welcome the tired and weary traveller. Colourful butterflies greet every visitor who chance upon the quiet corner in Terminal 3. Not many people know about this corner since there are few advertisements or signage leading to it. But for those who make it there, it is a rewarding experience indeed.

The Butterfly Garden is located just opposite the FIFA store in Terminal 3 very close to the Harry's Bar.

You can access the Butterfly Garden if you are a traveller in transit, in stopover, arriving or departing from any of the 3 Terminals of Changi International Airport.  The above coordinates are taken at the cache location but reception may be poor.  Just ask for directions at the Information Desk to locate the Butterfly Garden at Terminal 3. If you are in Terminal 1 or 2, you can take the SkyTrain to reach Terminal 3.

Once you are in the Butterfly Garden, it is time to take out your GPS receiver!  Go to a place where you have a clear view of the sky and wait until you get a lock.  It may take some time.  Wait a litte longer until the lock is stable.  Key in the coordinates and get within 10m of the cache.  From there you need a little hint.  See below. Attention: Please be mindful to replace and conceal it after retrieval. Please bring your own pen and a spare log sheet in case it is wet or full. Thanks!

Enter the Butterfly Garden either from the 1st level or 2nd level. At the 2nd level which can be accessed by the spiral staircase near the waterfall, look for a lighted information board entitled "HUNGRY PLANTS" . Locate a ROUND PLASTIC CONTAINER WITH CAMO TAPE AT THE BASE OF THE INFORMATION BOARD. Please replace and conceal it carefully. Thanks! Be careful of muggles looking in from the glass panes.

Again, please take extra care to replace it in exactly the same location that you found it. Please conceal it a little such that it is not obvious to cleaners and contractors. Thanks and Enjoy!

When retrieving:

Stealth is absolutely necessary to retrieve and replace. Just act natural and be a traveller interested in butterflies! ;-)

BYOP - Bring Your Own Pen!

Enjoy the Butterfly Garden!

Note:

Permission is granted for this cache from the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (Yes, it was bounced around for a while but got to the right authority!).  Having said that, workmen and contractors probably do not know the existence of the cache and are unlikely to understand it.  So please be mindful to maintain stealth at all times.   This cache is also maintained by kind geocachers stopping by in the airport - as muggles may have gotten to it every now and then. Check the latest logs to see the updates. Thank you!

The facts and information used in this write up is taken from the very informative Butterfly Garden Fact Sheet provided by the CAAS Department of Corporate Communications.

Dear Geocachers, in the spirit of gecaching, please be honest in logging your find. If you did not find the box, do not log as found. Alternatively, if you wish to help by replacing the box, please do contact us. Thanks! WE HOPE You have figured out by now, that we as cache owners do not always have access to this highly secured area. If you do not agree with this, please do not attempt this cache. I'm sorry to say that if you discover your log has been deleted, it is probably because you did not find the box! Sorry, but let's keep to the spirit of gecaching, ya? Thanks!

Additional Hints (Decrypt)

[The cache box is a hard plastic container on the 2nd floor of the Butterfly Garden. Please throw away the plastic BAG which is not the actual geocache container. Thanks.]
