Geocache Description:

On the night of 6 June 1796, Indalsälven river broke through its banks and cut a new canal, bypassing the rapids and emptying a 25 km long and 2.5 km wide lake, Ragundasjön, of all its water. In four hours the lake disappeared, Storforsen waterfall was silenced forever and Döda Fallet, the dead waterfall, was born. Within a few hours, some 1,000 million cubic metres of water flowed down into the valley, carrying with it everything in its path – trees and boat houses, barns, mills and fish traps. Miraculously, nobody was killed in the disaster.

The main protagonist in the disaster was the merchant Magnus Huss, also known as Vildhussen. He was employed by the farmers in the parishes of Stugun and Ragunda to take charge of the digging of a new channel to Indalsälven that would allow the highly valued timber of the area to bypass the rapids on the way down to the sawmills by the coast. Storforssen, with its 30-meter drop, made it impossible to transport timber down Indalsälven. However, Vildhussen’s project failed.

The cache is a 1 liter box in a plastic bag with a pencil, log and a TB from start
