Reservoir Rambles - East 7
How Geocaching Works
Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions in our disclaimer
Reservoir Rambles is a series of two walks that take you along the public footpaths and bridleways near Ardingly Reservoir. The best place to park, to do both walks, is along the minor road from Balcombe to Ardingly. There is a good free parking place, east of the causeway, at the end of the double yellow lines, and also another place about 50 yards up hill from there, if that is full.
The West Walk is linear, about 1½ miles each way, and flattish. There are 5 traditional caches to find along the way, and one bonus multi-cache, for which you will find a clue number in each of the 5 caches. This walk can also be done by starting from the other end of the bridleway, near Balcombe Mill, where there is a parking place. Just do the caches in descending order.
The East Walk is circular, about 2½ miles long, with hilly bits. There are 8 traditional caches and again a bonus multi-cache.
There is also another multi-cache, East Meets West, to join together the two parts of the series. The co-ordinates for this are hidden, half in the West Bonus Cache, and half in the East Bonus Cache.
All the traditional caches, and East Meets West, are micros, because this area is very well walked, with few safe hiding places for anything bigger. The West Bonus and East Bonus are bigger regular caches.
There are no pencils in the micros, to please be sure to bring your own.
This is a wonderful place for wild birds, so if you are a keen birdwatcher, don't forget to bring your binoculars.
