The Cueva del Viento is one of the largest volcanic caves in the
world and the largest in the European Union. It consists of ca.
17km of explored paths. Numerous endemic species find their home
here, over a dozen newly discovered ones among those.
The cave was created through the lava streams of Pico Viejo through
an eruption ca. 27000 years ago. Lava pipes are created when jams
occur: The outer lava cools down and becomes solid while the inner
lava continues to flow: A lava pipe remains.
Make sure to check the official website before you go for the hunt,
as it contains the actual opening times (I do not guarantee to post
the actual times here because they keep changing, but when I last
updated this listing they were Tue-Sat at 10, 12 and 14 (for tours:
pre-booking may be required!) with the visitor center generally
open from 9-16 on these days (no cave tour then!)): the official website

Describe in your log a speciality of this cave. You can find out a
lot from the info boards or materials in the visitor center.
Ideally this feature was not yet described in other logs.
Optional: Please take a picture of you or your GPS,
preferably inside the cave.

Die Cueva del Viento ist eine der größten Vulkanhöhlen der Welt und
die größte in der Europäischen Union. Sie verfügt über etwa 17km
erforschte Gänge. Zahlreiche endemische Arten finden hier ein
zuhause, davon über ein Dutzend bisher unbekannte.
Die Höhle entstand durch Lavaströme des Pico Viejo durch eine
Eruption vor ca. 27000 Jahren. Die Wände bildeten sich aus Basalt.
Die Lavaröhren bilden sich durch Stockungen: Sobald die äußere
Lavaschicht erkaltet und die innere wieder abzufliessen beginnt,
bildet sich eine Lavaröhre.
Informiert Euch über Befahrungszeiten auf der offiziellen Webseite
(ich garantiere nicht dafuer ob ich hier die aktuellen
Öffnungszeiten poste, da sie sich oft ändern, zum Zeitpunkt als ich
dies schrieb waren diese von Die-Sam um 10, 12 und 14 Uhr (Touren -
Voranmeldung ggf. erforderlich!), Besucherzentrum offen von 9-16
Uhr an diesen Tagen, aber dann keine Höhlentour): der offiziellen Webseite

Beschreibt in Eurem Log kurz eine Besonderheit dieser Höhle. Dies
könnt Ihr anhand Infotafeln / Karten recherchieren. Idealerweise
wurde dies noch nicht in anderen Logs beschrieben.
Optional: Mache ein Bild von Dir/Deinem GPS, idealerweise in
der Höhle.
PS: Es ist absolut notwendig, diesen Ort zu besuchen, um den
Cache zu loggen. Internetlogs werden kommentarlos
entfernt.
