Geocache Description:

The cache is not at the posted coordinates.

The premise of this cache is simple, but getting it done is where the difficulty 5 rating comes from.

In order to log this cache, you must first find every cache in the Shawano County Cemetery Challenge series. As of 11/2009, this requires finding 92 caches. (There are 94 on the list, but one is this cache, and there is a pair of caches--number 36--where you need to find one or the other.) It is unlikely any new caches will be added to this series after 11/2009 because every cemetery for which their are records in the county is covered in one way or another by this series. However, you must have completed the current list as of the date you log this cache.

To keep track of the caches in the series, use the bookmark list, shown at the right side of the page in the bookmark list link. Using the bookmark list, you can download the list into a program like Cachemate or GSAK and sort the list by caches you have found and ones you have not. Or, simply copy and paste the list below into your favorite word processing program or spreadsheet and check them off as you complete them.

When you have found all the caches in the series, go find the cache at the listed "Final" coordinates shown in the waypoint list below. (It should go without saying, but just to be clear, your log will be deleted if you have not found all the caches in the Challenge list.)

A nice map of (almost) all the cemeteries in the SCC series is available HERE. It may interest you to note that if you take a "best line" approach to these caches, you will have travelled at least 300 miles in the SCC Challenge! The farthest southeast cemetery and the farthest northwest cemetery are 55 miles apart!

About the WSQ-SCC Series

WSQ stands for "Wisconsin Spirit Quest, which is used by many Wisconsin cemetery cache owners. SCC stands for Shawano County Cemeteries, and the number between the two represents the location of the cemetery on a master map, which you can find by clicking HERE. The name after SCC is the name of the Township, then comes the name of the cemetery.

There are over 100 cemeteries in Shawano County, and nearly all have geocaches in them, bringing new visitors to these places to remember those who have gone before us. You just might find a long-lost relative or two.

These caches are designed to be easy to find, are usually a container and log only, and focus on “forgotten,” out-of-the-way, rural cemeteries. Also, any multi-stage caches are designed to bring you to special features of a particular cemetery.

There are many rural cemeteries in Wisconsin. Geocaching is a great way to get out and see some of these remote places, discover some interesting and unique markers, and to help ensure that those that have gone before us are not forgotten. With cemetery caches, the cache container is not hidden on or connected in any way to any grave site or marker. Occasionally, some information from a marker may be used to obtain final cache coordinates. Please be respectful of the cemetery and anyone visiting it.
