Pirmas zinas par vietu, kur pašlaik atrodas Strencu pilseta, ir rodamas no 17. gs. beigu Rigas – Terbatas pasta cela kartes.
Strenci savu attistibu uzsak 18. gs. otraja puse, kad šeit, uz muižu zemem, sak apmesties mežcirteji un plostnieki. Par nozimigu apdzivoto vietu Strenci sak veidoties pec Strencu stacijas atklašanas 1889. gada dzelzcela linija Riga – Pleskava (caur Valku). Apdzivota vieta aug, un 1895. gada Strenci iegust miesta tiesibas.
Ta ka Strenci burtiski ir “izauguši” no mežrupniecibas un plostniecibas, tad tauta ar laiku Strencus saka saukt par “Gaujas plostnieku galvaspilsetu”.
Turpinoties attistibai, 1928. gada Strenciem tiek pieškirtas pilsetas tiesibas. 1938. gada tiek apstiprinats ari pilsetas gerbonis. Zilais gerbona fons simbolize Gauju, cetras horizontalas zelta svitras simbolize pa Gauju pludinatos kokus, bet tris zelta rombi – caur Strenciem ejošo dzelzcelu.
The town of Strenci is located in Vidzeme, western part of Latvia. The current population of the town is only two thousand. Historically, Strenci has been a gathering point of working in forestry and raft floating. As a result Strenci got its unofficial status as the capital of the Gauja's raftsmen.
Town's coat of arms emphasizes the town's link with raft floating. Its blue background symbolizes the river Gauja, four yellow stripes across the coat of arms symbolize logs, floated down the river, but three yellow rhombs symbolize railway, which goes trough Strenci.

You can listen to evening music on Saturday;s evening from 21:00 to 22:00, in the period from Rafters festival (the third Saturday in may) to the Town festival (the first Saturday in August). Musicians go down the river by boat decorated with flowers and candles and perform popular melodies. People follow the boat going along the Gauja bank from the reinforced concrete bridge or the old oak up to the place where the Strencupite falls into the Gauja.
