Once upon a time there was a beautiful princess called Diane. She
used to live on a small island near Whanganui-a-Tara. One day a
pirate vessel approached the island. Immediately Diane put all the
things that meant most to her in a little box which she hid
somewhere on the island. When the pirates captured the island they
also got hold of Diane and forced her to disclose the hiding place
of her treasure. Diane made a deal with the captain of the pirates:
he would let her go if she drew him a map where he could find the
treasure. He agreed. So Diane left the island as a free woman and
the pirates started searching for the treasure. This all happened a
long time ago.
The pirates never managed to find the treasure and one after
another they died. The captain was so desperate for the treasure
that his ghost still lives on the island and waylays treasure
hunters. He can only be released by finding the treasure.
Are you brave enough to give it a try?

Please note the Matiu/Somes Island is a treasure itself and a
very special place.
Please take care to:
- not bring any pests (mice, rats, etc)
- clean your shoes/check your bags for seeds
- not light any fires on the island
- bring enough food and drinks as there are none on the
island
- take your rubbish with you
- not leave anything eatable in the cache
