Geocache Description:

"There's some things in this world you just can't explain."
—Charlie Daniels

It is a closely guarded local secret that this marshland on Pomonkey Creek was originally known as the Wooley Swamp1, and was the home of a reclusive old miser named Lucius Clay.

One dark night the despicable Cable brothers showed up at his shack, threw him into the swamp to drown, and ran off with thirteen mason jars full of money that he had buried in the muck.

None of them were ever seen again. Legend has it that Lucius' ghost caught up to the boys and took his revenge, and that he haunts the area to this day2.

Some locals say that if you come here at night, you can hear the ghost's evil laugh3. And if you are brave enough to search for this cache, you may even come across the old man's hoard4. Just don't go alone. Bwa-ha-ha-ha-haaa-haaaaa...

1Actually, we just made that up.
2OK, OK, Charlie Daniels made up that part. Sheesh.
3Well, we've never actually heard any locals say it, but it is a documented fact that we're pretty sure that it has probably been said by some of them at some point. Or at least implied. Not that we've ever really talked to any of them.
4Not likely. But if you do, we get half.

Serious and Important Stuff:
This is a small lock & lock in a scenic but rugged area of Ruth B. Swann Memorial Park. It is nearly a mile from parking and there are no trails in this part of the park. The area around GZ is significantly overgrown, but passable. You will be bushwacking for at least a quarter-mile, maybe up to a half-mile, depending on how you approach (you may want to leave the younger children at home). Use the parking coordinates; do not try to drive up Creedon Drive—it leads to private property and there is nowhere to park.

Difficulty rating is based on the hide location and the overgrowth in the area—your reception will probably be spotty. Terrain rating is based on the length of the hike, the elevation changes and the overgrowth at GZ.

Congrats to *SLJK* for FTF!!
