Geocache Description:

Come and join in on a fun weekend out camping, caching and socializing. The event starts on Friday afternoon the 20 February 2009 and goes on through to Sunday afternoon the 22 February 2009.

The venue will be Glen Muir Holiday Resort and Caravan Park. Follow the listed co-ordinates to get there. Glen Muir is situated approximately 27 Kilometers North East of East London. Offering Self Catering Holiday Cottages and Caravan Park. Right on the beach in the East Coast Resorts area. The neat cottages are kept immaculate by dedicated staff, and are surrounded by lawns and shady trees, as are the caravan sites, recreation hall, and braai facilities.

Each team will be responsible for making there own booking. They only have 27 camping sites, so please book as soon as you know you’ll be attending. The cost per site per night is R130 max 4 people, each extra person per night over the 4 will costs R30.

For those cachers, for whom camping is not there cup of tea. They also offer self catering cottages ranging from R250 to R700 per night depending on what you want or need. Try get a cottage near the camping area as this is where all the action will be happening.

The event is composed of three different activities.

1. Stake your position. A predetermined GPS point will be marked out with in an area using my GPS. Each team then will receive a stake and using their own GPS to drive in the stake where they think the co-ordinates are. As GPS's are not that accurate, this will all just be for a bit of fun.

2. A day of caching. The Saturday will be used for teams to find some prehidden caches. I will be hiding these caches, which will all be published. I have had over 6 months of thought going into hiding some of these caches. Expect the unexpected. Two of the cache ideas I have been wanting to place almost as long as I have been caching. The idea would be for teams to enjoy the caching experience and not to run around to see how many FTF's they can grab. In this regards no standards will be dropped in the placement of the caches and you should expect the usual or is that unusual iNokia surprises. There will be a few very difficult ones. (Picture this) A group of 5 teams still trying to find the cache after 2 hours while some muggles look on. There will also be some easy ones, so no one goes home empty handed. I would encourage teams to bring along potentially new geocachers to join them on the fun. I will be placing a minimum of 8 caches and depending on me finding suitable good locations, more could be placed

3. Micro Dash. On arrival each team who is going to be around on the Sunday, will be issued with a micro cache with unique items inside. During the course of the weekend, they will hide this micro with in the camping area and take a GPS reading. All readings will be collated and on Sunday a copy of all the co-ordinates will be given to each team. The winning team will be the team that finds all the unique items first, provided that at least one team finds the micro they hide.

Event Program:

Friday:
Afternoon to evening -Teams to arrive. Check in and set up camp.
Supper – Each team will be responsible for there own Supper.

Saturday:
08:30 – Collect caching info booklet and briefing.
09:00 – Teams head out for a day of relaxed caching and fun.
Lunch – If you think are going to be out caching for a long time you might want to pack in a lunch, or you could return to camp for a bite then head back out.
Afternoon – Teams to arrive back at camp at there own pace. If you still stuck on that difficult cache and just won’t give up, make sure you have packed in your torch ;-).
18:00 – Fire to be lit for a communal bring and braai.

Sunday:
08:30 – Bring along your own plate, cup, knifes and forks and an English breakfast will be provided for you.
10:00 – Teams will be issued with the Micro dash info. After the dashing around we’ll gather around to hand out a few small fun prizes. Each team to please bring along a small prize to be handed out.
Afternoon – Teams to pack up and head home after an enjoyable weekend.

Please don’t let the fact that the event runs over the whole weekend put you off. You welcome to come and join in on the fun at any time during the weekend. A day visitor’s fee will only cost you R10 per person per day. You will be allowed to log the cache as attended, even if you just pop around to say hello.

Don't forget to log a "Will Attend" on the cache page. Also please state the duration you intend on staying and how many will be in your party. Or you could contact me at adrianbowman@gmail.com Please note that this will be a very informal weekend and teams should feel free to do what they like.

Please let me know if you have any suggestions or comments.

Keep watching this space for more useful information and hope to see you there...

EDIT 08 Feb 2009
There's good news and there's bad news. The good news is that I have placed 11 caches so far and with a possible 8 more to be placed. The bad news is that you'll get 1 hour less sleep as I have decided to bring forward the starting time on Saturday by an hour to allow for more caching. The new times are.
08:30 – Collect caching info booklet and briefing.
09:00 – Teams head out for a day of relaxed caching and fun.
Only two weeks to go. Looking forward to seeing you all there.

EDIT 18 Feb 2009
All the caches are now placed and ready to be found, 17 new caches in total.
Only two days to go. Hope you have all made your bookings and ready to go.
