Hailuotoon pääsee ilmaisella lauttayhteydellä Oulunsalosta. lautta-aikataulut Talvella on osanaikaa käytössä myös jäätie. "Lautta-aikataulut" linkin sivulla myös ilmoitetaan, kun jäätie on käytössä.
Hyypälle, noin sadan metrin päähän kätköstä, vie noin puolentoista kilometrin pituinen metsäautotie, joka kääntyy päätieltä oikealle noin neljäntoista kilometrin päässä lautalta. Risteyksessä on pieni tienviitta, jossa lukee Hyyppä. Kahdessa risteyksessä metsäautotiellä seuraa "Hiihtolatu" viittoja. Tie on talvisin hyvin aurattu juuri Hyypänmäeltä lähtevien hiihtolatujen takia. Kesällä kannattaa varoa, ettei auto juutu pehmeisiin hiekkakohtiin.
Hyypänmäki on harjun päälle kerrostunut paraabelidyyni ja Hailuodon korkein kohta. Alueen luonto on erittäin kaunista ja mielenkiintoista. Mäen päältä avautuu näköala Lahdenperälle ja aina merelle asti.
Hyyppä on loistava mäenlaskupaikka, joten kannattaa ottaa pulkat ja kelkat mukaan. Hiihtoladut taas tarjoavat vaihtelevia hiihtomaastoja.
Kätkön lähellä sijaitsee ns. Struven ketjun mittauspiste. Struven ketju on yksi aikansa (1800-luvun alkupuolen) suurimmista teknillistieteellisistä saavutuksista. There is a free of charge ferry connection to Hailuoto from Oulunsalo. ferry timetable Usually for some weeks in winter there is also an ice road between the ferry stations. There is an announcement on the page linked "ferry timetable" when the iceroad is open.
The 1,5 km long forest road leading to Hyyppä and within hundred meters from cache, turns right from the main road approximately 14 km from the ferry. There is a small "Hyyppä" sign in the crossing. Follow the two "Hiihtolatu" signs on the forest road. The road is kept open in winter because of cross-country skiing trails starting from Hyypänmäki. In the summer there are bits of soft sand on the road.
Hyyppä is a parabolic dune piled over a ridge and it is the highest point of Hailuoto. Landscape of the area is beautiful and from the top of the hill there is a nice scenery to Lahdenperä bay and to see.
Hyyppä is an excellent place for sleding and cross-country skiing.
Close to the cache there is a measurement point of so called Struve Geodetic Arc witch was a huge science project carried out in the first half of 19th century, but if you wish to know more about it you have check it out for example from Wikipedia since the info table near the cache is only in finnish.
