cervisvenator: Hi

While I feel that should hold the location for the cache owner and block other cachers from placing a cache in the area around this cache for a reasonable amount of time, we can’t do so forever.

Nothing seems to happen with this cache listing, so it is now archived, so that someone else can place a cache in the area, and geocachers can once again enjoy visiting this location. Also, if it hasn’t been done already, please pick up any remaining cache bits as soon as possible.

If the owner wants it reopened, send me an e-mail and I’ll be happy to unarchive the cache listing if it still satisfies the requirement/guidelines.

(This reviewer note is in English so non-Norwegian cache owners, geocachers and cache reviewers can understand what it says.)

Thanks for your understanding,
Cervis Venator Volunteer Cache Reviewer

Geocache Description:

Urban cache in Bergen, Norway.

Foto/photo: Andreas Sandberg.

Like vest for cachens gjemmested, ligger Sydneshaugen skole.

Du kan se innslaget her:

St. Johan’s Church and Sydneshaugen school

St. Johan’s Church was built during the years 1888-1894, at Nygårdshøyden in Bergen, Norway. The church is built of red bricks, and has Bergens tallest church tower. The church can be seen from many places in the city, and can be used as a landmark for navigation without GPS (sic). The church was drawn by architect Herman Major Backer in Gothic Revival style, and has 1250 seats.

The church shares the Gothic Revival style with many churches, but also e.g. with the Houses of Parliament in London. From the church, there is a good view of the Bergen city centre along Torgalmenningen towards Torget (the fish market).

Sydneshaugen skole (’Sydneshaugen school’) lies just west of the hiding place of this cache, a big, yellow building. It was built in 1921, as to replace the older school Hambros skole, which burned down in 1916.

The building was in 1965 given to the University of Bergen – it was in fact drawn in 1915 with use as a building for a university in mind. However, it was not until 1946 that the University of Bergen was established, a full 135 years after Norway’s first university in Oslo (1811). Today Sydneshaugen skole houses several auditoriums, study rooms and offices for the Faculty of Humanities, University of Bergen.

The cache's position is given with 2.1 m accuracy. The cache is a round box 6 cm in diameter, and 6 cm high. There is space for small items of trade. It's original contents were two british coins and a strap from AVAB CAC.
Small pencil and pencil sharpener avaliable in the cache. Please, please put the cache back into exactly the same position as you found it!
