Bosque Mágico - Magic Forest
In the afternoon, when clouds cover the sun and the fog comes, it will become quiet in the forest. You have to keep silence and look and hear very closely. Cautiously, very cautiously the elves and goblins get out of their hiding places and start to dance with the wind. But . . . . be very carefully and beware of the mistress’ of the fog. They lure you at the edge of the abyss and you will precipitate and be lost forever . . . . . . . .
In this mystique area you will find the oldest laurel trees of Madeira. At N 32°48.853 W 017° 08.975, at the border of an ancient volcanic crater you can find this grandfather of laurel tree (avô do louro) which is shown in the gallery. In sunlight all seems quite easy. Even though I know this area, I got lost for a while in the fog when I was there without my Garmin. A tip: save your start data and record your track. Even in summer, take warm clothing with you. The weather can change more than very quickly. There’s no public bus line to the area. You have to use a taxi or a rent-a-car.
