Geocache Description:

I have been informed that security has not allowed people onto Clover Park Campus when the campus is closed (weekends). Please see Clover Park Technical School Policy below.

This six stage multi-cache takes you to the five historic markers placed by the Historical Society of Lakewood. Each historic marker will provide a component of the coordinates to locate the final cache.

The Lakewood Historical Society was founded in October 2, 1998 by a small group of local citizens who had a joint interest in saving the history of Lakewood. Their first major project was to place markers at several historic sites in Lakewood. This was especially important because many buildings and sites had already been moved or demolished and their significance had been lost.

This multi-cache will take you to the five Lakewood historic markers. The first historic marker at the above coordinates is located at the future site of the Lakewood Historical Society.

1. The first marker is on the wall of building 5 located on the Clover Park Technical School grounds.

What year was the first Airmail Service? = ABCD

2. The second marker is located just outside the entrance to Building 3 on the Clover Park Technical School grounds.

What year was the first race? = EFGH

How many miles was the original dirt track? = I

3. The third marker is located on the wall of Safeway in the Lakewood Towne Center.

What year did the Catholic girls school begin? = JKLM

4. The fourth marker is located on the NW corner of Bridgeport Way and Custer Road in the Conoco-Phillips 76 gas station parking lot.

What decade did the block house exist? = NOPQ

What year was the next house built on this site? = RSTU

5. The fifth marker is located in the cemetery in Fort Steilacoom Park.

What year was the first burial? = VWXY

Clover Park Technical School Visitation Policy (Weekends):
per Mike Anderson - Clover Park Technical College - Director for Plant Services & Security

Our campus is accessible for limited instructional programs on Saturday from 7:00 am – 5:00 pm as we have weekend programs at that time. Sunday the campus is open for the Lakewood Chamber of Commerce with limited gate access (Steilacoom Blvd. only) from 8:00 am – 5:00 pm. Our Security Officer should not tell anyone they are not allowed on campus at these times. If there is someone on campus during these weekend hours our Security Officer may ask their purpose if they are not near an occupied and/or scheduled instructional class building. If the visitor states their purpose, i.e. (viewing a historical marker near Bldg. 5 hanger site or Bldg. 3 area for the race track site) then our staff should accommodate them and show them the two sites. All other times during the weekend our campus is closed, sorry for the inconvenience, you are welcome to post the security phone number (253-589-5682) on your site to accommodate the public for these locations. I will check with my staff so they all understand our customer service policy.

You can visit the Lakewood Historical Society from Noon to 4 pm Wedn to Sat. at:

6211 Mt Tacoma Drive SW
Lakewood, WA 98499

Directions are available on their website. Or go to N 47 10.208 W 122 31.230.
