Geocache Description:

Easy cache in Laitakari.

Laitakari is an island located north side of the Kiiminkijoki-river's delta. The area used to have a busy sawmill business with own railroad track. The cache is located in a harbor at the south part of the island. Next to the harbor area there is old chimney, grindery and a steam power plant. North part of the island is nearly crude and area is part of EU's Natura 2000 - network.

Laitakari on Haukiputaalla, Kiiminkijoen suiston pohjoispuolella sijaitseva saari, jossa oli ennen runsasta sahatoimintaa. Alueelle kulki jopa oma rautatie. Kätkö sijaitsee saaren eteläosassa sijaitsevalla satama-alueella. Sataman vieressä näkyy vielä vanha tiilipiippu, hiomorakennus sekä höyryvoimalaitos. Saaren pohjoisosa on edelleen luonnontilainen ja alue kuuluu Natura-alueeseen.
