Geocache Description:

Oltidens typehus

English.

In the early Vikinge Age there was a large farm here. Only the farm main house is excavated.

The house was nearly 37 meters long and up to 7.25 meters wide. The long walls were curved while gables were straight. The roof was carried by seven sets of bars. They stood in two rows that followed the curved walls. The house was divided into three spaces - residential, barn and stable. The roof was curved so that the house was highest in the middle.

This type of house was dominant in almost 3000 years, from the Bronze Age to the Viking Age.

The City Council of Sønderborg has decided that Sønderborg will be a leader in reducing CO2 emissions. Therefore, the City Council approved the construction by Soenderborg District Heating of a solar heat plant in Vollerup which can cover approx. 55% of the heating needs in Vollerup.

The facility is complemented with a plant that can only be fired with CO2-neutral fuel in the form of eg bio-oil or wood pulp.
