Traditional cache with a logbook and pencil, and some small items.
Originally the cache contained a small one-off camera, the pictures taking by some of the early visitors are found in the gallery (and may hint to the hiding place).

Kyhnsminde are located on a high place overlooking the city of Ry and one can see as far to the 'Himmelbjerget' (Sky Moutain) on a clear day. There are various footpaths to the site. Parking is possible at extra waypoint below on 'Brunhøjvej'.

Kyhnsminde - in memory of the painter Peter Vilhelm Carl Kyhn

Born Monday 30 March 1818 in Copenhagen (other sources: 1819)
Died Monday 11 May 1903 Frederiksberg

He first was apprenticed to become a merchant, then he went into copperplate engraving, but at the same time he studied at the Art Academy from 1836 and was a pupil at the model school from 1840, where he won the Little Silver Medal. That same year he began to exhibit in the landscape profession, which he had studied on his own. In 1845 he won the Neuhausenske price, and in 1848 he was awarded the College travel support. Due to the turbulent conditions in Europe at the time he was allowed to postpone his trip to 1850. The year after he got the scholarship renew, so he could spend two years in France and Italy.

In 1870 he became a member of the Art Academy and resigned in 1882. In 1887, he was nevertheless a member of the College Board. While he was a member of the academy, he was turned to Knight of Dannebrog in 1879.

Kyhn exhibited his first picture ‘Bornholm Beach Party’, which was promptly bought by the Danish Royal Painting Collection, which since has bought further nine of his pictures. He is richly represented in both public and private collections.

His works are perceived as expressions of the artistic and political vacuum that emerged after the three-year war 1849-51 and Denmark's first free constitution, a period that artistically stretched until the mid-1870s. In the 1840s his view on the landscape painting was characterized by Ecker Bergs classicism. Then he created under the influence of N.L. Høyen, his own version of National Romanticism: magnificent Danish Countryside with the back light and historical characters whose ideological background was skandinavismen. In 1871-79 his garden studio in Farimagsvej was a hub for a group of younger artists known as the "Cave Academy", a professional, but informal assembly, which collected the simmering discontent among college students and the anticipated formation in 1882 of the Artists' Studio schools. During the same period he trained a large number of the female artists, including Anna Ancher. From 1873 he worked every summer at Himmelbjerget and experimented with open-air painting. In the 1880s he switched between studio work and large outdoor paintings.

Kyhn spent over a period of 30 years his summers in Ry. Often the old painter meet with his many artist friends here and a great little artist colony flourished. Kyhn was popular with the citizens of Ry and perpetuallied the region through his many pictures. Vilhelm Kyhn died in 1903 and in 1910 this memorial was raised.

Art painter Karl Moller gave a bronze medallion executed by sculptor Brandstrup to this memorial. Farmer Anders Andersen, who gave the land under Ry church, also gave the land on top of Lynghoved - today better known as Kyhnsminde, at 28th August 1910 the memorial stone was revealed. Silkeborg news paper described the memorial in its commentary:
"A very ordinary Bornholm granite with Brandstrups excellent, well done Relief medallion of the old artist. The stone, which is 4 yard high and weighs 4,500 pounds, are arranged in beautiful and stylish way, the middle of a cairn, and it all has an outer smooth and modest character as the old artist himself.
