Geocache Description:

Back in the mid 1800’s in the golden era of railroads a spur line was built
from Cherokee, IA to Onawa, IA. Where the junction of the spur joined the
original line, a small depot was established. It is still listed as a “Populated
Place” by the Federal Government although it never was as such. It is listed
on some very old records of the county but very little information exists even
in the Cherokee County Archives. The spur line has been gone for close to
50 years, although some of the bridges and roadbed are still visible in much
of Cherokee county as well as those south. The old bridge at Pearse Access
between Cherokee and Quimby is one example. The cache spot is very close to
the original location.
