CONGRATS TO MALCORE ON FTC
Have you ever seen the Spencer Glacier? Well, unless you've ridden the AK Railroad train to the Spencer Whistle Stop you haven't. As most out of the way places in Alaska it is beautiful. And this year the Railroad is offering a 2 for 1 special (if you buy your tickets before the end of May and mention you know about the special) Can't think of better reasons for us cachers to gather at this special spot. We'll have about 21/2 hours at the whistle stop if you make this just a one day trip. But I have reserved the 10 person group campsite if anyone wants to stay the night and explore the area further (I can get an additional number if more people want to stay)
For further information and to get tickets go to AlaskaRailroad.com or call 265-2494 The chugach national forest website also has information on this area.
More camping info: (visit link)
This site has a map of the area. The group camping is 1.1 mi from the train stop.
Talked to a park ranger today. I asked if there were carts at the train station to help carry supplies into the campsite and he said no but it is an easy 1 mile walk and if necessary we could bring a gardening type cart on the train. There are nice tables, water, firewood and bear proof containers at the campsite. He also said these are the modern pit toilets.
UPDATE: The two for one tickets are extended till the end of June so you can put off the decision to attend till close to the event date.
