Geocache Description:

First let me say that I am a fan of most music. Then let me say that I am a bigger fan of just about any music born in the late 60's to early 70's, when it seemed like anything was possible and musical exploration opened up new doors into the dimensions of not only sound but also of album art and incredible liner liner note and dust jacket designs. Back then the experimental music scene had as much to do with mind expanding experimentation as it did with throwing off the yolk of the kitschy and contrived music of post-war baby boom era.

Now, I will admit that I missed that boat by a decade, born on the cusp of that musical peak and there are probably many among you more "experienced" than I. Suffice it to say that I have still enjoyed many of these albums (though certainly not all of them) and I know at least one of you who had an opportunity to go to "a great big music gathering on a farm" and passed on it, now knowing how significant that event would become.

There have been incremental resurgences of psychedelic sounds in the post psychedelic era with the advent of electronica and trance music played in post-grunge underground raves and more recently in the burgeoning independent music scene with the coming of age of file-sharing and instant market access via the internet. Today the influences of these ground-breaking bands of decades past can be heard in much of what is today broadly labeled alternative.

I know I'm just brushing the surface and there's volumes more to say about the genre, but I'll save that for future caches.

Here is a selection of many of the most memorable psychedelic album covers from that era (and just a couple after). You'll need to identify and then tally up the number of albums released in certain years or decades.

A. Number of albums released in 1967.
B. Number of albums released in 1969, minus the number of ...Alarm... albums.
C. Number of albums released in 1966, minus the number of Them albums.
D. Number of albums released in 1968, minus the number of ...Alarm... albums.
E. Number of albums released in the 90's.
F. Number of albums released in the 70's, plus the number of Floyd and Blues albums.

UPDATE 5.18.09: Slight clue adjustment based on review of release dates.

UPDATE 6.20.14: Clue adjustments to accommodate better final cords.
