Geocache Description:

Simple cache in Vasilievsky Island, almost in the center of St.Petersburg

The cache is placed near Saharov's square. This is silent student's area not far from Nevsky prospect and Winter Palace. It becames more lauder at the time of holidays and student's sessions. In the middle of the area there is a monument to academician Saharov, who is called "the father of Russian atom", the peacemaker and Nobel laureat. But at foundation of the city by Peter I, this place was going to become probable the centre of a life of Petersburg. Then it was a big space on the island, from different directions leaving to Neva with the first buildings – Peter’s the First museum Kunstkamera, a building of Twelve boards and palaces of the most nobel approached to Peter - of Demidovs, Naryshkinyh, Lopuhinyh. And the very first architect of Petersburg answered Domeniko Trezini have done the project of this area
But Neva is the restless river, there were no regular bridges through it at Peter I, therefore to reach on island from the "continent" was very difficult. It has induced Peter to change the plans and to transfer city centre to a "continent". And the area remained, and was filled with the buildings serving old port – warehouses (pakgauses), sea warehouses, the markets under low arcades.. Now it is the science centre, from one part - a building of University, from another - Library of Academy of Sciences.

The cache is small box, greater than film container, and it allows to put to it small geocoins.

The cache is placed in a small yard, and the gate to this yard is usually open from 9 am to 9-10 pm. At night it is closed. You can also visit additional waypoints, they are situated not far from the cache and on the way to nearest underground stations (Gostinyi Dvor, Vasileostrovskaya and Sportivnaya).
