Geocache Description:

This is one of five stand-alone caches located on Washburn County Forest Land near Whale Lake.

If you look at an atlas, it's hard to see why they call this Whale Lake. However, pull out a topo map and you will see it. While looking for a place to stash our cache, we came across a skeleton (deer) hanging in a tree. Some hunters must of thought this would be funny. Biotreker didn't like it too much. LOL Biotreker and I were looking at maps of County Forest Land and realized there was a big area not far from her home base. It's an interesting area with a mixture of pine and oak, all of which is literally dotted with ponds. You should see plenty of wildlife, as we saw rabbits, turtles and even a porcupine. This area is a small maze of roads and fire lanes which can be accessed from almost any direction. So, if you would like a little help you can go to the following web site for a map showing most of the trails. http://www.co.washburn.wi.us/departments/forestry/info/forest-resource-maps.htm In Winter this one will only be accessible by snowshoes or snowmobile. Besides, the cache isn't exactly winter friendly anyway. Enjoy your hunt...you are looking for a 30cal. ammo can. If you have time, check out the other four nearby caches.
