Tower Point Lookout is still an active fire lookout. Developed
in 1940 with a wooden tower, the present 20' treated timber L-4
tower, built in 1955, is staffed every summer.
To get to the lookout turn off Road 16 on to 1750. The sign at the
turnoff says "Tower Point Lookout 3 Miles". This road is NOT for
your town car or your truck with a cabover camper! We did it in an
F350 with 4-wheel drive. The road was wet and muddy in spots too.
The terrain rating is based on the drive in, not on the walk to the
cache.
We have visited the tower on horseback too! It's a beautiful
ride from Double Cabin Pond. Once at the top the view is
spectacular! You can see in every direction. The cache site is on
the flat top not off the side. You are looking for a standard ammo
can filled with trade items.
