Geocache Description:

Hike-N-Seek 2009!

Get your boots out and grab your trekking poles, bring your whole family and all your friends - it's time to head for the hills of Western Iowa! This year's Iowa Geocachers Organization Hike-N-Seek will be headquartered at Plymouth County's Hillview Recreation Area just west of Hinton, IA.

The Plymouth County Conservation Board, who manages Hillview, is excited to be our host this year and is welcoming geocaching in BIG ways! There will be a large number of PERMANENT caches placed for the event, and dozens of them will be right in the park, well within hiking distance! More will be placed all over the county. Like to hike? We'll get you hiking! Like to bike? We'll get you biking! Prefer park-and-grabs? Okay, we'll have those too! Puzzles your thing? Sure! You like water? Well, we have it on good authority that you might be able to float to some caches during a sister event on Sunday! (Sorry, folks - that didn't pan out.) We're working on an Earthcache or two (or THREE!?!), a Wherigo perhaps, multis and offsets, night caches, and we're even planning a Friday CITO and a 101 event for newbies! You'll be able to add to numbers in more than one way this weekend! We'll have so much for you to do, you'll want to come for the whole weekend - good thing there's a nice campground at Hillview and hotels nearby. We have a team of local cachers who are excited to have you join the IGO for a weekend of fun, and they're planning to have upwards of 150 new, permanent caches in place for the weekend, and some fun temporary challenges!

Have a competitive streak? Then bring your best game! We'll have a caching competition for the die-hards and newbies alike. Come well rested and well equipped! The competition starts on Saturday morning and goes until Sunday. Can't stay that long? No problem - you'll still be in the running! We've got prizes, both for the competition and as door prizes. You can also opt not to compete, and just go caching at your leisure.

The event will officially begin at 8:00am Saturday 26 Sept, with some socializing, GPSr loading (bring your cables and drivers!), and strategizing. Important instructions happen at 9:45 and the competition begins at 10:00. We'll have a pot-luck picnic. We'll fire up the grills for you around 5:30 - bring your favorite grill food and a dish to share - salad, side, or dessert. We'll eat about 6:00. Basic beverages will be available. Don't forget your chair for sitting around the fire (unless you plan to spend the night caching!) and your flashlights and headlamps to hunt the night caches.

There are still MANY details to iron out, and the bumanfam is heading up a great group of fun-loving volunteers to get it all ready. We advise putting a watch on this listing, or at least checking back often. More details, including camping reservation information, are on the IGO website. There are distinct benefits to posting your "Will Attend" log and letting us know you'll be coming (or are at least thinking of coming) - we want to let our sponsors know how many AWESOME cachers we're expecting!
