Bill Evans Lake is just a few miles off Hwy 180 northwest of Silver City, NM. We use it as an overnight stop when going up to Springerville, AZ and Big Lake. It can get warm here so we plan to arrive late afternoon or early evening, usually stopping in Silver City for dinner.
Turn onto Bill Evans Road just south of the Riverside community. Stay on the paved road (up the hill) until you reach the lake. Free camping and fishing if you have a NM fishing license. We stay in the main parking lot, if you are tenting or have a small RV you can drive around to a nicer spot on the other side of the lake.
Be careful going over the edge at the end of the parking area, it's steep, rocky and a long ways down to Mangus Creek. You may want to use a hiking stick to help with balance.
While not too common, possible snow in winter may be a factor in getting to the cache
You are looking for a water proof matchbox covered with cammo tape.
