Geocache Description:

Second step in 870+ acre project completed.

This 192 acre parcel was purchased June 30, 2009 and is phase two of three properties totaling more than 870+ acres (adjacent to Money Rocks County Park) in the Welsh Mountains portion of the Highland Region that the Conservancy has targeted for protection. It is significant to note that it's one of the last remaining large contiguous blocks of woodland and wildlife habitat in the County.

When this project is completed these three properties will join with the Money Rocks County Park for a total of 1,175 acres of contiguous preserved land: a monumental achievement.

This parcel of land is truly one of the County's gems. It holds a mature forest that provides a habitat for a large number of native species of plants, birds, and animals, and fills a growing need for open space, protection of water quality, and clean area. These Welsh Mountain forests are ideally suited as an educational and recreational area for outdoor classrooms, hiking, biking, and bird-watching opportunities.
