Geocache Description:

ENG: This simple cache will lead you to one forgotten place in the Slezska Ostrava.

ENG: On 9/5/1894 broke miner's strike on the mine Trojice in Silesia (then Poland), Ostrava. Twelve miners were shot.

In the history of the labor movement, this day became the most violent example of monarchical power against the striking miners.

Ostrava union movement had entered into a strike for the introduction of eight-hour working time and wage increases of 25%. The strike was led by Peter Cingr and Jan Prokes, later mayor of the city of Ostrava.

After the First World War a monumental memorial was created in the local cemetery and after the Second World War was then created a monument by academic sculptor Otto Cienciala in place in front of the mine Trojice.

Oto Ciencala (nar. 29.10.1931, Horní Suchá)

Jan Prokeš (28.5.1873, Cernotín – 11.12.1935, Ostrava)
