My favourite of the many hidden waterfalls that exist in bush-clad gullies around Wellington.
At 20m high the Percy Falls are believed to be the highest waterfall in the Wellington region, and are a very pretty sight even with low water volume.
From the listed trail head co-ordinates follow the vehicle track all the way down until you see the creek. At this point you will at the "lower dam", or "detention pond/dam" in the Percy Scenic Reserve.
Look for the sign marking the start of the "Waterfall Track" It is a very easy walk to the falls with bridges across the stream and wooden platforms in parts, you won't get your feet wet!.
The walk to the falls is suitable for all ages.
Once you reach the falls you will however need to cross the stream, and scramble up a steepish bank to get to the cache, hence the terrain rating. GPS reception is particularly bad at GZ so I will make things a bit easier for you. From the bench seat (which is the best place to photograph the falls from b.t.w) walk about 20m uphill on an obvious track.
Facing uphill the cache is on your left, very close to the track.
You can alternatively reach the lower dam from the Percy Scenic Reserve main entrance which you will find at 5 Dowse Drive, Maungaraki. There is plenty of parking there plus toilets, picnic tables, garden areas, lawns, and historic displays. Well recommended to include that in you walk if you haven't visited there before.
