Details:
Ledges is a great place for an event, located between Boone and the
Iowa Arboretum where numerous caches of all types are already in
place. There are more than 100 caches within a ten mile radius of
the park. Plus, Ledges is home to one the oldest caches in Iowa
(Forgotten Monument, currently Iowa's 3rd oldest active
cache).
Along with the festivities, the meal will be picnic/potluck style.
Attendees are asked to bring their own drinks and a dish or two to
share. There are grills available, but you will need to bring your
own meat and grill it too. The team will provide paper plates,
napkins and cups.
There will be several temporary caches placed along the trails
throughout the park. These will be "kid-friendly" caches, and those
nearest the shelter area will be well stocked with kid-friendly
swag. You will be able to log these temporary caches online through
a permanent "logger" cache.
We have found a family-friendly local band (First Born Son), who
will play a few songs for us.
We will use this event to debut the team's "5 Terrain Challenge," a
series of caches rated 1x5 to 5x5 that can fill the 5 terrain
column of your difficulty/terrain grid. Those who complete all 10
caches in that series, will earn a path tag specially made for
completing the challenge. (there you go, Weasel). These caches will
be as challenging as they sound, but our area also has numerous
caches with lower terrain ratings.
5 Terrain Pathtag (Enlarged)
There will be one other new cache series that should be posted
shortly before the event.
We encourage all area cachers to consider putting out new caches
near the time of the event. If you decide not to put out new ones,
please consider checking on your caches and at least changing the
logs if they are full. We also have several door prizes in mind but
we won't turn down any contributions/donations.
