Size between micro and small. No need to get off the foot
bridge.
This bridge was built by volunteers from the Florida Trail
Association on January 15 and 16, 2010. It was back breaking work
bringing the wood into here. I never realized how much work was
involved with this until I did it. After two days of hauling the
wood there was finally time to take turns putting the lag screws
in. This turned into a lot of work. Talk about a workout. Who needs
health clubs. We did enough heavy lifting, pushing, sawing,
drilling, hammering, brush removal, and wrenching that it would
have taken three weeks to get this much exercise in a gym. To make
matters worse we were usually ankle deep in mud. What really
impressed me was that most the volunteers were in their 60's or
older and not one complaint. At least not during the construction.
I imagine the next few days were tempered with IBP or Aleve.
I came in from the north off of Brumley. It is about a half mile
from there to GZ. Panorama is a private road so stay off of it.
This is a really nice walk. Do the trail all the way to Whispering
Pines if you want a nice hike. It will be 5 miles down and
back.
You can expect to get dirty if you do this when it's new. There's
still a lot of dirt on the bridge from the construction.
The name comes from the last screw we put in. It is on the very
north end of the bridge. Just in case you think it's valuable
though you should know it's only gold paint.
