Tracking the Past Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Team Phlyer: While the cache is still in good condition, the surrounds have been deemed unsafe and are now locked off. This was my favourite hide, and such a shame that another piece of history is being allowed to decay into oblivion.
Thanks to all those that took the path less travelled to find this cache.

Geocache Description:

Welcome to our first cache. We decided that there was too great a distance between caches in this area and will begin to lay some caches to fill in the gaps, as well as take cachers to interesting and historic sites in the Great Southern of Western Australia.
This cache takes you to a point on the Kojonup to Katanning railway (now derelict) that opened in 1907 and closed after being damaged during floods in 1982. The rails have been removed, but the path is quite visible in most places.

You depart the Old Broomehill/Kojonup Road on a well made track suitable for 2wd vehicles at these coordinates 33° 49.766 S 117° 18.329 E. You can park approximately 220m from the cache site.
Also near to the above coordinates is a siding on this line, where goods were loaded on for transport to port. Not much remains, however you should easily be able to see the rail workings. Just follow the sleepers back in the direction of where you parked.
Cache is a lunch box containing the usual goodies. Please replace carefully. We hope you enjoy this hidden piece of railway architecture.
