Baziliko sv. Marije Matere usmiljenja, ki ima dva stolpa in tri ladje, so zgradili ob prelomu 19. v 20. stoletje po nacrtih dunajskega arhitekta Richarda Jordana. Nastala je na mestu nekdanjega kapucinskega samostana in cerkve Matere usmiljenja, pri kateri je bil od leta 1786 sedež slovenske predmestne župnije. Še pred izgradnjo cerkve v slogu starorimske bazilike so pozidali dvonadstropen samostan, ki se drži cerkve na njenem južnem delu. Opeko za njeno izgradnjo so nosile ženske iz Melja, za kar so prejele dva odpustka.

The two towered, three nave basilica dedicated to St Mary Mother of Mercy was built at the turn of the 19th and 20th century according to a plan designed by the Viennese architect Richard Jordan. It was constructed on the spot of the former Capuchin monastery and the Church of the Mother of Mercy, which from 1786 was the seat of the Slovene suburban parish. Before the church was built a two-floored monastery was constructed in the style of an old Roman basilica, which joins the church on its southern section. The bricks for the construction of the building were carried by women from Melje, for which the received two indulgences.

Die zweitürmige dreischiffige Basilika der hl. Maria Mutter der Barmherzigen wurde Ende des 19. zu Beginn des 20. Jahrhunderts nach den Plänen des Wiener Architekten Richard Jordan gebaut. Sie entstand an dem Platz des ehemaligen Kapuzinerklosters und der Kirche der barmherzigen Mutter, bei der sich bis zum Jahre 1786 der Sitz der slowenischen Vorstadtpfarrei befand. Bereits vor dem Bau der Kirche im Stil der altrömischen Basilika wurde das zweistöckige Kloster errichtet, das sich am südlichen Teil der Kirche anschließt. Die Ziegel für ihren Bau trugen die Frauen aus Melje, wodurch sie sich zwei Ablässe verdienten.
