Geocache Description:

This “multi” involves a walk of about 3 miles around Stanwick Lakes, it being the second in the Park n Cache series.

Up until 1980 the area around the Stanwick site was mainly used for farmland and pasture. In 1980 archaeological excavations in and around the Lakes site revealed early prehistoric ceremonial complexes. In 1985 quarrying and mineral extraction began at the northern end of the site. These initial areas were restored to lakes and meadows. Quarrying ceased in 2004 and the site is now owned by Northamptonshire Council and managed by Rockingham Forest Trust.

Stanwick Lakes lies in the heart of the Nene Valley in Northamptonshire and offers something for everyone.

Facilities include:

A Visitor Centre, complete with cafe, gift shop, a hidewaway indoor play area for children, function rooms and education wing.

Over 7 miles of footpaths and cycle paths.

Central adventure play ground with waterplay, streams, water wheels, sand play areas, climbing towers and giant slides.

Full size assault course.

Adventure trail with climbing rock, rope bridge, giant tyre swing and zip wire.

Bird hide, fishing, cycle hire, picnic areas, toilets, outdoor theatre.

The walk is mainly on metalled paths with a few short stretches on grass and is buggy friendly. Please be aware of the nearby deep water if caching with children.

Car parking is available in the park itself at a cost of £2.00 (October - March), £3.00 (April - September) per car, payable on exit at an unmanned barrier.
