Geocache Description:

This cache is part of the “DCNR - Legacy of Conservation” Geocaching Trail (see “Related Web Page” link above). Collect all the Pennsylvania Legacy of Conservation cards – one from each of the 30 caches in the trail – and show them all at one of the validation centers to receive a Legacy of Conservation geocoin (non-trackable). This geotrail will be archived on June 30, 2013.

In 1895, the Game Commission was created out of a need to restore wildlife that had been decimated by unregulated hunting and habitat destruction. Specifically, the agency was charged with regulating hunting and protecting wildlife habitat in Pennsylvania. Under powers conferred by an act of the General Assembly of 1919, the first State Game Land was purchased by the Game Commission on June 15, 1920, at $2.75 per acre. You will find yourself in front of a monument commemorating the first state game lands purchase. You will need information from this monument in order to get the coordinates to the final cache site. N41 3A.B02 W78 3C.D17 Where: AB = Total all the numbers of the year in which license fees were first provided for. Example: If the year was 1955, then adding 1+9+5+5 would result in the number 20. C = The number of letters in the first name of the man recognized for his efforts to develop public hunting grounds. D = The number of letters in the first word on the plaque. To check your work, add up all the individual numbers – A through D. Your answer should equal 12.
