Le plateau de la Verrerie est un site naturel remarquable. Il est classé site NATURA 2000.

Cette nature préservée et riche est pour de nombreuses espèces un habitat exceptionnel. Ce plateau se caractérise également par la présence d’une tourbière véritable palais paradis pour le lézard vivipare et pour d’autres espèces comme la drosera, plante carnivore. Le plateau tient son nom, des verriers, qui en 1662, originaires de Lorraine, vinrent s’installer à Saint-Nicolas-des-Biefs.

Le plateau de la Verrerie offrait tous les matériaux nécessaires : sable, eau et fougères mais aussi argile pour construire les fours et hêtres pour les alimenter. L’activité des verriers cessa à la révolution. Vous aurez aussi, si le temps vous le permet, une vue magnifique sur la plaine du Roannais.

IMPORTANT: Ce site est un site fragile et protégé. Merci de n'emprunter que les passages proposés. Pour trouver cette cache, il n'est pas utile de sortir des sentiers ou bien de descendre du ponton. Nous comptons sur votre bon sens et sur le respect de la nature

The tray of glassware is a remarkable natural site. It is classified NATURA 2000 site.
This unspoilt and rich site is a unique habitat for many species. This plateau is also characterized by the presence of a peat bog true paradise for the palate lizard and other species such as sundew, a carnivorous plant. The shelf is named, glassblowers, who in 1662, from Lorraine, came to settle in Saint-Nicolas-des-Biefs.

The tray of Verrerie offered all the necessary materials: sand, water and ferns but also to build clay ovens and beech trees to feed them. The activity of the glass ceased to revolution. You will also, if time permits, a magnificent view over the plain of Roanne.
