On May 1, 2000, President Bill Clinton, one of the most…

interesting presidents in our history, announced Selective
Availability (the scrambling of the satellite navigation system)
would be ended.

On May 2, 2000, Selective Availability was archived; may it rest in
peace forever.

On May 3, 2000, Dave Ulmer hid a bucket in the woods outside
Portland, Oregon and announced its location on USENET, posting the
coordinates (N 45°17.459 W 122°24.800) in the sci.geo.satellite-nav
newsgroup. The original stash was born.

Let’s get together to mark this auspicious
