Geocache Description:


Natural monument Tourmaline Suns is placed in the western part of
the village Mysenec near Protivin behind the back wall of the house
number 28. It is well accessible from the road leading towards the
church. It is one of the biggest localities of tourmaline crystals
in the Czech Republic.


In a small quartzite rock (white quartzite and pink quartzite) you can see three big clusters of black tourmaline crystals. The longest is about 60 cm. You can see some others in different parts of the village. It is the most important and interesting place of these crystals in the country. There is also a nice church and remains of a medieval castle there (used in present buildings).

Tourmaline is a crystal silicate mineral compounded with elements such as aluminium, iron, magnesium, sodium, lithium, or potassium. Tourmaline is classified as a semi-precious stone and the gem comes in a wide variety of colors.

The tourmaline mineral group is chemically one of the most complicated groups of silicate minerals. Its composition varies widely because of isomorphous replacement (solid solution).

Tourmaline is found in two main geological occurrences. Igneous rocks, in particular granite and granite pegmatite and in metamorphic rocks such as schist and marble. Tourmaline is a durable mineral and can be found in minor amounts as grains in sandstone and conglomerate, and is part of the ZTR index for highly-weathered sediments.

Tourmaline belongs to the trigonal crystal system and occurs as long, slender to thick prismatic and columnar crystals that are usually triangular in cross-section. The style of termination at the ends of crystals is asymmetrical, called hemimorphism. Small slender prismatic crystals are common in a fine-grained granite called aplite, often forming radial daisy-like patterns. Tourmaline is distinguished by its three-sided prisms; no other common mineral has three sides. Prisms faces often have heavy vertical striations that produce a rounded triangular effect. Tourmaline is rarely perfectly euhedral.All hemimorphic crystals are piezoelectric, and are often pyroelectric as well.

3. There is a wooden infoboard there with 4 small white plastic boards. There is one picture or photograph on each of them. What exactly is in the pictures? Find also one name+surname there and tell us, what important he/she did in the history of the village. If you don´t speak Czech, at least find the name and surname and try to copy a piece of the text around :-)

4. Upload a photo of you and your GPS device from the place (not older than 9th April 2010). If you have no GPS, you have a map of course. Avoid photos with the infoboard please.

Tourmaline crystals locality - Turmalínová slunce v Mysenci

Prirodni pamatka Mysenecka slunce se nachazi za zdi zadního traktu staveni c.p. 28 v zapadni casti obce Mysence u Protivina. Je volne pristupna ze silnice vedouci od kostela. Jedno z nejvyznamnejsich nalezist krystalu turmalinu v Ceské republice.

Turmalíny jsou skupina klencových minerálu, cyklické silikáty s komplikovaným chemickým vzorcem. Krystaly jsou prizmatické, jehlickovité, vzdy podélne rýhované. Dále tvorí zrnité, kompaktní, stébelnaté a vláknité agregáty, usporádané nepravidelne nebo paprscite (turmalínová slunce).

Vyskytuje se v horninách vyvrelých (v granitech, dioritech, pegmatitech, syenitech), premenených (v granulitech) i usazených.

Chráneny jsou paprscité turmalínové shluky tvorené dlouhými stébelnatými krystaly, které vznikly vyloucením z tuhnoucího zulového magmatu. Turmalínové shluky se hojne vyskytují na balvanech a skalách v zahradách mnoha myseneckých stavení, ale i v jejich kamenném zdivu.

Na míste prírodní památky jsou tri velké shluky skorylu, kdy jeden je dlouhý priblizne 60 cm a je protáhlý prevázne vertikálním smerem. Dalsí dva se nacházejí priblizne pul metru az metr na levo od nej. Tyto dva shluky jsou mensí a jsou v podstate vedle sebe. Vsechny tri shluky jsou vzájemne rovnobezné. Samotná telesa jsou tvorena sloupkovitými krystaly, které dosahují velikosti rádove nekolika centimetru.

Levé dva shluky jsou dobre viditelné a nepozkozené a pravý shluk je ve spodní oblasti cástecne porostlý lisejníkem, který zasahuje i do stredové oblasti.

Krystaly se nacházejí v kremenném syenitu, kde se dá rozpoznat jak cistý bílý kremen, tak i místy jeho odruda v podobe ruzenínu, který ale není úplne zbarvený, ale spíše má nádechy do ruzova. V horní cásti je i vetsí teleso zivcu, které je se slunci v kontaktu.

3. Na míste najde informacní tabuli se 4 tabulkami. Na kazdé z nich je jen obrázek ci fotografie. Co presne je na nich vyobrazeno? Na infotabulkách najdete alespon jedno jméno+príjmení a napiste nám, cím se dotycný/dotycná zapsal do historie obce Mysenec.

4. Nahrajte do logu vase foto z návštevy po 8.4.2010 (aby vás bylo mozno jednoznacne identifikovat) s GPS a turmalínovými sluncemi. Nefotografujte infotabuli. Pokud nemáte GPS, máte zcela jiste mapu.
