We spent a long time by the dock of Ribeira with my sail boat Nemo of Sweden during the spring of 2010. The old part of Porto is beautiful and the river is as nice on both sides. We even got to know a few geocachers and attended the event Georafting 2010 up the valley one day. I promised the guys there to place a cache in Porto somewhere since most of them cleared most of the caches in and around Porto. And I always try to keep my promises ;)
During the storm Xynthia in the end of February of 2010 it rained a lot for weeks. The dams upstream had to be opened and the water raised in the river of Douro to an extreme that are only seen a few times in ten years.
So much water created a inferno and we had to move our boat with the help of the Marine Police. We saw this nice spot a few times more after that while going sailing out on the Atlantic. So I had to show it to you as well!
I think it's a nice spot if you are looking for a tranquil space for your own after strolling either the Port-wine-walk of the Gaia side, or the seasonal busy area of the old-town-side of Douro.
Please make sure the box get back SAFE!
THIS CACHE IS UP FOR ADOPTION IF ANYONE WANTS TO GIVE IT A LONG LIFE! Original cache owner will help out!
