Geocache Description:

Welcome to our first Sri Lanka cache on top of Eagle Rock, Thotulagala, Haputale. Enjoy best views over tea estates, mountains, southern plains of Sri Lanka and a 700 m deep abyss! Lipton Seat (photo), the southcoast, jungle, Yala and Udawalawe NP can be seen from here. Once you watch the amazing flight of of the Ceylon Eagle, you will understand why this lovely place got this name. Enjoy a view better than Horton Plains, Worlds End. And best of all - it´s free of charge.

Welcome to our first Sri Lankan cache at Eagle Rock.

This Eagle Rock gave us the team name Eaglerocks. Eagle Rock is part of a 3-caches tour we have made alongside the lower outskirts of Thotulagala, Pitaratmalie and Dambatenne tea estates. A good viewpoint for our 3-caches-area is the 3-km-post on the Dambatenne Road. The cliff wall of Eagle Rock and all tea estates and mountains from here to Lipton Seat, Koslanda, Wellawaya and southern plains can be seen from our waypoints.

Our first cache is on top of Eagle Rock, our second cache is in the jungle down under Thotulagalla Waterfall No. 10, our third cache is on top of Dambatenne Waterfall No. 11 B. Finding all 3 caches in a day tour will take about 6-8 hours by walk. The tour ends near Dambatenne km-post-8. (No. 10 and no. 11 B are estate fields).

Eaglerocks seen from Kelburne Estate.

Hikers from 3-km-post (waypoint A2)
Pass the White Monkey and follow the outskirts of the tea bushes. Climb up to the Eagle Rock viewpoint. Arriving there you will understand why do we like this place so much. Lonesome, natural, no polution, no any noise. An unforgettable 360° roundview. Find a little picnic place down under. The abyss under Eagle Rock falls 700 m deep down to the the Wellawaya-Ratnapura road. Ceylon Eagles are flying here every morning and afternoon. Easy to find them, once you know how to identify their call.

Off-roaders can take the dirt track opposite Thotulagala tea factory. Turn right after 680 m and stop at the car turn (waypoint A3).

Top: View to White Monkey road and Lipton Seat. Down: Eagle Rock.

One of my children is worried about Jimmy-Blue. He is a hungry beatle with blue wings, white body and yellow dots. Jimmy likes to travel to one of our next caches. If somebody will find him? Take him around please.

Common needs: Walking stick, bush knife, food parcel, 2-3 l water, tool knife with scissor and saw, torch, all weather dress or umbrella, jersey, good shoes, long shirts and trousers - cause of thorny bushes, bur and sharp gras.

Cache problems? The White Monkey is the base from where we have started all our cache tours in this area. Do you have any problems with Eaglerocks caches please contact Shirodh's White Monkey at 3-km-post, Dambatenne Road, Thotulagala, Haputale.
