Geocache Description:

The other day my GPSr started behaving even more strangely than it normally does! First the screen started flashing, then it went completely blank. My first suspicions were the usual ones - dead batteries or another dead eTrex. However a few seconds later it kicked back into life, but this time I was even more confused by what was on the screen than I normally am!

Here's a screen dump of what I saw:

Never seen anything like that before!! A search of the Groundspeak Forum didn't give me any answers so I was at a dead-end.
Anyway, recently I was watching a re-run of Independence Day on ITV4 (yes, I know, I need to get out more!) and that bit where Jeff Goldblum manages to upload a virus to the Alien computer (yes, I know, I know) looked very familiar! The alien words looked just like what was on my Garmin! Had it accidentally picked up an alien message? What did it say? Where they using our satellites against us?

Fortunately by pet Babel Fish was able to translate it for me.

Here is the translation:

“Whilst flying above this class M planet we the people of Altair 4 saw the sign and stopped to investigate.
We have found it to be most welcoming indeed. Friendly humanoids, interesting terraforma, plentiful supplies of Space Dust and flying Saucers, and interesting fermentations.

We have now turned this place into a meeting point for peoploids scattered across the universe.

Come join the party at humanoid coordinates:
N55 46.241 W2 00.924

Testimonials:

"Saw the sign - popped down to party with a crate of Intergalactic Gargleblasters and been here ever since!" - Zaphod Beeblebrox

"It's a real great party down here. Wild! I'm absolutely legless!" - C3PO

"I wouldn't mind getting stranded here, it's brilliant!" - ET

"Mmmmeeoouurrgggeoaaa!" - Chewbacca”

So, don't panic! The message was not about an impending Mars attack, it was just an invite to party!

Things became clearer when I punched the coordinates into Google Maps to see where they've landed and off I went to meet them!
Fortunately these aliens are a friendly bunch and just looking for a good time.

They have asked me to extend the invitation to the people of Earth. Go join the party. They're a great bunch! Perhaps you might want to take one of them home with you ;)

Note: if you do go along then please be careful of muggles. Those above you wont be a problem but those over the fence might wonder what's going on. Best try to hide from them just in case - I don't want these 'illegal aliens' to get deported...
