Ready for a nice (long) hike at Blackhawk Ridge??
Blackhawk Ridge is a large unit of the Lower Wisconsin State Riverway. This DNR area was a private campground and cross country ski area many years ago. It contains a quiet trail system of almost 10 miles, featuring hardwood forests, pines, and birch with bluff top views of the Wisconsin River valley. The trails are top notch, and new trail maps have been strategically placed along the trails.
From the suggested parking lot it is quite a steep hike to the top of the Ridge where the trailhead is located. There is drinking water, a beautiful log warming shelter, and porta potty located there. From the trail head, the trails are more gently rolling as they wind in and out of the woods. the cache is located a short distance off of one of these trails. You will rack up 3-4 miles of solitude hiking depending on your choice of trails.
The Geocache Notification Form has been submitted to Ryder Will of the Wisconsin DNR. Geocaches placed on Wisconsin Department of Natural Resource managed lands require permission by means of a notification form. Please print out a paper copy of the notification form, fill in all required information, then submit it to the land manager. The DNR Notification form and land manager information can be obtained at: (visit link)
OK..There is a Plan B that will get you closer parking to the cache, and avoid the climb to the top...BUT, it will cost you $5.00.
The DNR owns another parking lot on top, but the only access is via a Private Cedar Hills Campground road, and Cedar Hills Campground charges $5.00 for this priviledge.
