I 2002 blei fyret overrakt Jæren Friluftsråd.
Fyret er no ope for publikum store delar av året.

Kvassheim lighthouse was built in 1912, the last link in the building of lighthouses on Jæren. The station must be viewed alongside both Obrestad and Feistein, both of which were built to direct traffic safely past the coast of Jæren. But despite that there were two other lighthouses on Jæren, there were many shipwreckings every year, and in 1906 a bright fog signal was built just south of where Kvassheim lighthouse stands today. The fog signal was discontinued when the Kvassheim was built in 1912. Kvassheim lighthouse was equipped with fog horns, which in turn was replaced with a typhoon in 1956. In 1990 the lighthouse was automated and depopulated. Many lighthouses have their own significant*source code*enabling sailors to know what beacon they are looking at by observing the flash intervals. In 2002 the lighthouse was handed over Jæren Outdoor Recreation Council, and the old lighthouse is now open to the public.
