Geocache Description:

Le site du fort Saint-Irénée conserve les traces de toutes ses occupations successives à travers l'histoire. C'est d'abord, à l'époque gallo-romaine, le lieu de passage de l'aqueduc du Gier avec le départ du siphon de Trion, puis celui d'une galerie souterraine d'adduction d'eau à partir du XVIIe siècle. Entre 1831 et 1843 se construit ici le fort principal du secteur ouest des nouvelles fortifications de Lyon.

The site of Fort St. Irénée retains traces of all its successive occupations throughout history. First of all, in the Gallo-Roman times, the crossing point of the aqueduct of Gier with the departure of the siphon Trion then followed by an underground tunnel to supply water from the seventeenth century. Between 1831 and 1843 in the main fort built here in the western sector of the new fortifications Lyon.
