The SLBT Antenna (Sri Lanka Broadcasting Tower) is easy to locate when you come by walk or own vehicle. When you reach the 3-km-post of Dambatenne Road, take a rest and watch alongside the road. Next 3 tea factories (villages) are Thotulagala (0.7 km), Pitaratmalie (3.5 km) and Dambatenne (6.5 km). Right above the second factory is the SLBT antenna. Next to the right, the round hill, is Samimale. At clear, sunny days you can see a white wall there. Nearby ends an sandy estate road. Downstairs to the backside is the Samimale Rock Temple. Down under is the Dambatenne tea factory (former Lipton). The last mountain is Lipton Seat.

Start from Haputale
You can start this tour either by bus (20 Rs.) or directly by 3-wheeler (700-900 Rs.) from Haputale. All 30 minutes there are busses starting behind Risara Bakery and ending at the Dambatenne tea factory (9.2 km).
Start from Dambatenne
There shall be one early bus around 7 AM from the tea factory to the top. Get out at the end of the zigzag road (signboard SLBT). Good hikers need about 60-90 min. from the factory to the cliffwall. A 3-wheeler taxi cost around 500 Rs. Arrange yourself some waiting time. At 4 PM drives a bus from Bandaraeliya via zigzag road down to Dambatenne tea factory.
There are two ways starting from Dambatenne tea factory. Either by a shortcut near the Dambatenne Tamil Vidiyalaya No. 1 school or alongside the road.
1. The road tour is recommendable for those hikers who like to find our caches at Lipton Seat and Nayabedde cave. Follow the road to Lipton Seat and take the steps in the left corner of the zigzag road (shortcuts). The first steps are starting after the hospital/temple. On top turn left to the SLBT antenna.
2. Same like before, follow the Lipton Seat road (1.1 km) but turn left 100 m before the Dambatenne TV school No. 1 (first photo). There are some hundred steps going up to the left (N). High up there is a triangle of tea bushes touching a forest (330°). Walk 300 m upstairs, 120 m left and 75 m up. In the peak of this field is a shortcut going up to the top. Do you reach it, there is a colonial path made by natural block stones. Follow this path to the white hut, turn left and follow the estate road to the car turn. Take the steps at the end of the car turn. Follow the tea bushes to the cliffwall.
Travelling by car or bike?
Than drive on the Dambatenne Road to the top of the zigzag road. Turn left to the SLBT antenna and pass Nayabedde Cave (0.5 km). Hereafter are two right turns to Nayabedde (Horse temple) and Bandarawela (Nayabedde tea factory/Maut/toll!). Always follow the left road (1.1 km) to a junction. A sand piste turns left to the car turn at Samimale Rock temple.
A cement road turns right to the SLBT antenna (400 m) but there is no entry. Also they don´t like photos. But you can get there drinking water from a tap.
One of my children is worried about Jimmy-Blue. He is a hungry beatle with blue wings, white body and yellow dots. Jimmy likes to travel to one of our next caches. If somebody will find him?
Common needs: Walking stick, bush knife, food parcel, 2-3 l water, tool kife, torch, all weather dress or umbrella, jersey, good shoes, long shirts and trousers - cause of thorny bushes, bur and sharp gras.
Cache problems? Please report to Shirodhs White Monkey at 3-km-post, Dambatenne Road, Thotulagala, Haputale.
