Lake City School Traditional Geocache
sixgrands: I'm so sorry this happened! The cache has been up for a year and a half with no problems at all. I checked on this cache frequently and saw no signs of vandalism at the site. But, to keep the neighbors happy and our fellow cachers out of a bad situation, I'm archiving this cache. Thanks to all who found it. It was a fun ride.

This cache is a nano. (I know, I know. ANOTHER blinkie.)
This building and location are typical of one room school houses in Iowa in the late 19th to mid-20th century. The farm-to-market roads in Iowa are laid out in a straight line, one mile square grid. There was a school house on the corner every two miles so no child ever needed walk more than one mile to school.
Surprisingly there are several one room school houses in Boone County that are still standing. None are in use as schools and most are private property as homes, storage or are vacant. A few more are:
-Cline School (the Little Red School House) at 179th Street (E26) and J Avenue
-Mineral Ridge (Ridgeport) School on 112th Lane in Ridgeport
-Mackey School at 221st Street (E18) and Lakins Grove Avenue (V Avenue) west of the remains of Mackey
-Hickory Grove School on the site of the former Battin School at 216th Avenue (E41) and J Avenue
-Friedrichsen (Vernon) School on Highway 169 near 310th Street south of Ogden
